About the Crestwood High School Band Program The Crestwood High School Band provides students with many opportunities. The band program provides opportunities that many times would not be possible for the “average” student. The band program, under the leadership of band director Brian D. Moss, assistant director Gerard Stokes, and Percussion Instructor Jamey Johnson consists of the Marching Knights Marching Band, Symphonic Band, “Knight Train” drumline and various ensembles. This well-rounded band program has received numerous awards and recognition at the community and state level. The message of teamwork and unity is displayed everyday in the band program. The Crestwood High School Marching Band, also known as the “Marching Knights,” performs at football games, marching band competitions, many community events and various parades throughout the state. This ensemble of approximately 80 members is an energetic and vibrant organization that exudes school pride every time they perform. The award-winning “Knight Train” drumline is in great demand throughout the community and state at various competitions and functions. The Marching Knights host an annual “Battle of the Drumlines” drumline competition that features NC A&T SU “Cold Steel” drumline as the guest attraction. The “knightingale” colorguard is also an energetic entity that adds spice and flair to the marching knights band program. The knights blend the marching style of traditional (high step) and corps (military style) to achieve a distinct and envied marching style. Formal competitions are always corps style while parades and fun events are high-energy traditional style. The marching band performs a variety of musical styles. Students participating band must participate in Marching and Symphonic band. The Crestwood High School Symphonic band blends students from each band class that are committed to performing the highest level of music. This band explores various genres of music and performs at least two annual concerts in December and near the end of school for the Spring Concerts. Students participating in band must participate in both Marching and Symphonic band. Clinicians and workshops are often planned to specifically address issues with specific instruments and issues associated with that instrument and performer. Private lessons are also strongly encouraged: |
